SIGNAL PARTY GUIDE

CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY NETWORK, ONE PARTY AT A TIME.

In recent months, the government has entered private homes without warrants,seized electronic devices, and used surveillance to collect personal information. At the same time, most communication now relies on large platforms like Facebook and Google.

Because of this, our community needs a secure and fast way to share information when it matters most.

WHAT IS A SIGNAL PARTY? This guide explains how to host a small gathering of trusted local friends to create a private Signal group. Download the printable guide here.

Each person who attends will then host their own small gathering and repeat the process. Within a few weeks, this creates a network of connected, secure groups. Messages can move from group to group and reach the wider community within minutes.

1. One new Signal group is created at each gathering.
2. Only people physically present at that gathering join the group.
3. Groups should have no more than 15 members.
4. All members verify Signal safety numbers with one another during the gathering.
5. Each group sets its own rules for how the chat will be used.
6. Members agree to quickly pass along urgent messages to other groups they belong to.
7. Each member agrees to host their own 6–12 person gathering to continue growing the network.

Example uses: 

• Share urgent information during emergencies (wildfire, earthquake, evacuation, school lockdown).
• Coordinate turnout for time-sensitive events or demonstrations.
• Share local calls to action (vote, volunteer, donate, show up).
• Build stronger connections within your community.

HOST YOUR OWN:

• Download and install Signal from your phone’s app store if you haven’t already.
• Review a basic Signal setup guide (the Electronic Frontier Foundation guide is helpful).
• Choose a date and invite 5–15 trusted friends.
• Ask guests to arrive with Signal already installed on their phones.
